Experts have predicted that the UK is just days away from seeing the most expensive fuel ever seen in the UK, as millions look for the lowest prices in their area.
Fresh data suggests that diesel will hit its highest-ever price this week as the war between the United States and Iran rages on, sending the global cost of oil ever higher.
The UK’s record price for diesel came in the months following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, when drivers saw an average cost of 199p per litre at the pumps.
At present, drivers are paying 196.1p per litre for diesel, while petrol costs 172.4p per litre – the highest level since the outbreak of conflict between the US and Iran.
Numerous experts have called on the Government to cut the rate of fuel duty to protect drivers from escalating petrol and diesel costs, especially with the rate set to rise by 3p in January.
The Liberal Democrats, the AA and the Road Haulage Association have urged the Government to intervene and prevent prices from reaching the highest level ever seen in the UK.
In the meantime, motorists can save money by using comparison apps to find the cheapest fuel in their local area.
