British holidaymakers planning trips to Mexico have been issued an urgent travel warning as Hurricane Polo approaches.
The storm is currently battering Mexico’s southwestern coastline, with authorities warning that persistent heavy rainfall could trigger deadly flooding and landslides.
A tropical cyclone warning remains in effect across the affected region.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office updated its guidance today, cautioning that conditions pose a serious threat to life and that travellers should heed instructions from local authorities and tour operators.
The alert covers multiple Mexican states where significant restrictions are now in place.
Forecasters expect the hurricane to track northwestward towards Baja California over the coming weekend, potentially bringing further dangerous conditions to the region.
Sustained downpours have already lashed the southwestern coast throughout this week, and the rain shows no sign of easing in the days ahead.
The FCDO has advised travellers to keep a close watch on both domestic and international weather bulletins as the storm develops.

Britons currently in affected areas or with imminent travel plans have been told to follow guidance issued by Mexican authorities and any instructions from their holiday providers.
Numerous Mexican states are subject to FCDO restrictions advising against all but essential travel.
In Baja California, the warning covers the cities of Tijuana and Tecate, though airside transit at Tijuana airport and certain toll roads remain exempt.
The neighbouring state of Baja California Sur is not affected.

Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas are also included, with limited exceptions for specific cities, border crossings, and federal toll roads.
Further south, the states of Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, and parts of Jalisco, Guanajuato, and Chiapas all carry similar restrictions, with only select destinations accessible by air or designated routes.
Travellers who disregard FCDO guidance risk having their travel insurance rendered void, the department has stressed.
This applies to anyone venturing into areas where the government has recommended against all but essential journeys.

The FCDO is urging Britons to regularly check forecasts from the US National Hurricane Centre and the Mexican Meteorological Service as Hurricane Polo continues its path along the coast.
