Suella Braverman has hit out at the “disgraceful” small boat crossings this week as she warned that Hampshire will see “even more” undetected illegal arrivals.
Speaking to GB News, the Reform UK Education Spokesman argued that there is a “clear answer” to solving the country’s illegal migration crisis.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has ordered Border Security Command to launch an urgent review following the incidents.
Speaking to GB News from Gosport alongside Reform councillor George Madgwick, Mrs Braverman stressed that she has been “arguing for years” that Britain needs to “leave the ECHR”.
She said: “It’s very clear what needs to be done to solve this crisis and stop the invasion, and it’s clear what we’ve been calling for now for years – we need to leave the European Convention on Human Rights.
“I was the first Conservative minister to say publicly that we needed to leave the ECHR so that we had greater powers to deport and detain.”

Highlighting Reform UK’s policies on illegal migration, the Reform MP explained: “Reform’s policies are very clear, we need to actually use the Royal Navy on the Channel so that we intercept these boats when the French are not helping us and return these boats to France.
“And then, of course, we’ve got the historic agreement secured just a few weeks ago between Nigel Farage, Jordan Bardella, very likely to be part of the next incoming French Government, which does set out an agreement for French British cooperation on the channel.
“Those are the three elements that you need. You need greater powers on the border to detain and deport. You need interception, a robust border security on the water, and then you need cooperation diplomatically.”
Noting this week’s undetected small boat arrivals, Mrs Braverman warned that more vessels will try and enter Britain’s coastal border, including in Gosport.

PAShe cautioned: “They will try again, and when the first migrants arrived in Portsmouth a couple of weeks ago, I went down there and I came back to Parliament later that day, and I asked specifically the Home Office minister for a guarantee that if this were to happen again, under no circumstances would an immigration processing centre or accommodation centre be set up in Portsmouth or the Hampshire area.
“I categorically did not get that guarantee from the minister and therefore I’m very concerned and extremely suspicious about the Government’s plans.”
The Reform MP added: “I fully expect more migrants I’m afraid to be arriving on the southern Hampshire coast in future, probably escorted by Border Force or by RNLI or by the Coast Guard, and that will be under Government orders.
“That is a disgrace, that is not what local people want and it’s not what they voted for.”

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has ordered Border Security Command to launch an urgent review after a series of undetected illegal Channel crossings.
Ms Mahmood made clear that “even one” uncontrolled landing is “one too many”.
In a statement, a Home Office spokesman told GB News: “We are making progress with the number of small boat crossings down on last year and June, July and August recording the lowest number of arrivals since 2020.
“But we must go further, which is why we’ve signed a payment by results deal with the French to put 40 per cent more boots on the ground on French beaches.”
