It is alleged that Sansom lured Sharif, who killed his daughter Sara Sharif in August 2023, into a cell where Watson was waiting.

Watson is then said to have restrained Sharif and punched him repeatedly, before Sansom applied pressure to his throat.

It is further alleged Watson passed an object to Sansom, which was used to make cutting motions across Sharif’s throat.

Prison officers who entered the cell found Sharif bloodied and distressed on the floor, with injuries to his face, mouth and neck, a court has previously heard.

Watson and Sansom appeared at the Old Bailey today for a plea hearing via separate video links from Wakefield prison.

Both denied attempted murder and wounding Sharif with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

They also denied unauthorised possession of two offensive weapons in prison, relating to a tin lid and a pen attached to a handle.

Judge Lynn Tayton KC set a two-week trial date for July 19 next year.

She remanded both serving prisoners into custody.

A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for June 21.

Sharif and Sara’s stepmother, Beinash Batool, from Woking in Surrey, were jailed for life in December.

This followed years of “torture” and abuse that culminated in the 10-year-old’s murder.

The pair, along with Sharif’s brother, Faisal Malik, fled to Pakistan on August 9, 2023 – a day after Sara was killed.

Sharif called Surrey Police from Pakistan to report her death, which triggered an international manhunt.

The three were arrested on September 13 at Gatwick Airport after voluntarily returning to the UK.

Sharif received a minimum term of 40 years.

Batool was sentenced to 33 years.
