Germany has vowed to do everything it can to aid Andy Burnham in rejoining the European Union and help reverse Brexit.
The vote to leave the EU achieved the largest democratic mandate for a single electoral choice in British history.
The German ambassador to the UK, Susanne Baumann, said Berlin would be a “partner” for a potential new relationship with the continent.
She told the Telegraph: “For us Germans, the UK is an integral part of Europe โ its history, its present and its future.
“I was therefore glad to hear the Prime Minister speak about different options for the UKโs relationship with Europe.
“It is, of course, for the British people to decide how close they want that relationship to be. But let me be clear: in Germany you will always find a partner for setting the ambition as high as we can.”

PASpeaking on this pledge, the Reform UK leader said: “He made it absolutely clear that rejoining the European Union, the single market, the customs union wasnโt even on the tableโฆ fast forward a few months and apparently everything is on the table.
“So heโs chopped and changed on this. Heโs gone from a couple of years ago saying in his lifetime he wishes to rejoin, to saying to the voters in a by-election he doesnโt, to now showing his true colours.
“Perhaps he thinks that by doing this he can dig into the green vote; he can dig into the metropolitan vote.”
Labourโs 2024 manifesto explicitly said Britain would remain outside the EU and ruled out a return to the single market, customs union and freedom of movement.
Nigel Farage has said Reform UK was handed a ‘huge opportunity’ after Andy Burnham opened the door to closer ties with the European Union | GB NEWSThe Reform leader argued that the Prime Ministerโs overtures to Brussels gave Reform a huge boost against Labour in the partyโs now-contested heartlands.
He said: “I promise you, where I am right now in Doncaster or huge parts of the Red Wall, he has genuinely given Reform a huge opportunity.”
“Here in the north, in the Midlands, it’s got to be a straight two-horse contest. It’ll be Reform versus Labour.
“Even attempting to go back down that road (on Brexit) hands us, I believe, a huge advantage.”
