Law enforcement sources told CBS that the gun used was purchased by his mother.
Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz confirmed Kalub Giamanco, 36, shot Griffin during his attack on the school.
Mr Giamanco, a “lifelong Bend resident” and dad of two children who attend the school had heard the gunshots as he drove home for his lunch break.
His family said he is “not seeking recognition” but wishes to express his “gratitude to the first responders, school personnel, and community for the outpouring of love and support”.
