A Boots employee has been suspended for “racism” after singing a children’s song at work.
Maria Clarks was given a final written warning for singing the “Chicken Banana” kids’ song while working at the high-street chemist.
The 62-year-old said a complaint was lodged for shouting the word “banana” in the shop.
She told The Sun she was left heartbroken, embarrassed, and made to feel like a criminal.
Mrs Clarks said: “I thought it was a joke when outside management turned up and told me a children’s meme was racist.
“I was gobsmacked when they weren’t joking.”
She said employees in the Weymouth, Dorset, branch often jokingly sang the song when it was quiet at work.
“It’s a children’s song that really gets in your head,” she said.

“I didn’t think anything of it at all, we just all got the giggles singing it while it was quiet at work.
“We would then say ‘banana this’ to sign off prescriptions and the pharmacist would say ‘banana done’ when she’d done them.”
Chicken Banana is a song created by Swedish music producers Crazy Music Channel in February 2025.
The song quickly spread on the internet, with over 250 million views on the original Youtube video.

The music video features a chicken with a banana body and a spinning chicken banana pizza.
A TikTok dance where the social media user mimics a chicken and a banana then followed.
Boots bosses handed Mrs Clarks a “inappropriate behaviour and discrimination” after someone complained, she said.
The 62-year-old, who has been employed for 46 years at the same branch, is now plagued by the viral trend.
“That song is giving me nightmares now,” she said.
A spokesman for Boots said: “We do not tolerate harassment, bullying or discriminatory language in our workplaces.
“We take any alleged incidents extremely seriously.”
