A Polish diplomat is fighting for his life after falling from a third-floor window at the country’s embassy in Slovenia.
The incident occurred in Ljubljana last weekend, with a Polish security chief who works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, falling from the window in the early hours of last Sunday morning.
However, details remain light on what happened, with Slovenian police barred from accessing the embassy premises as Polish authorities carry out their own investigation.
This comes amid growing concerns of a possible attack on a Nato nation from Russia.
Poland’s foreign ministry spokesman Maciej Wevior confirmed the incident, which occurred around 3am on September 13, saying the diplomat was on holiday at the time.
Despite being on holiday, the Polish diplomat allegedly took a diplomatic pouch without permission, the Sun reports.
Local police are not involved in the investigations, as diplomatic premises have complete inviolability, meaning Slovenian authorities cannot access the premises without prior permission.
The police said: “According to the information collected so far, for a currently unknown reason, a person fell from a balcony and was seriously injured. His life is in danger.

“We were informed by the diplomatic mission that their competent investigators will carry out the procedural actions themselves, including inspecting the scene and investigating the circumstances of the incident.”
It is understood several people were attending a party at the embassy when the security chief fell.
There is currently no indication the fall was connected the security chief’s role.
Howver, Krzysztof Bosak, deputy speaker of the Polish parliament, described the fall as “suspicious”, calling for an in-depth investigation.
