Sudanese asylum seeker Deng Chol Majek murdered Rhiannon Whyte at the Bescot Stadium railway station in Walsall in October 2024.
“I cannot comprehend the pain that Ms Whyte must still be feeling,” Mr Burnham wrote in the letter.
“It is unimaginable to lose someone so dear, especially your own child, under such horrific circumstances. I also share her anger. The lack of remorse shown by Rhiannon’s murderer is despicable.
The Prime Minister wrote that he hoped her meeting at the Home Office provided Ms Whyte with a “valuable opportunity for discussion”.
“I understand that the Minister really appreciated meeting Ms Whyte and talking about her family’s desire to create a positive legacy for Rhiannon.”
Despite the meeting, Ms Whyte despaired that she felt like “we’re banging our heads off the wall”.
“We came away from the Home Office hoping that maybe something would be done, and literally three days later, the illegal migrants were coming into Portsmouth and Dover.
“So it felt like a complete kick in the teeth for us all.”
Nevertheless, the mourning mother insisted she would not give up in seeking justice and a meeting with the Prime Minister.
“This is my child. And I will continue to fight for my child and Rihanna’s child.
However, she added: “Do I think I’ll ever meet him? I don’t.”
