A man has been charged with the murder of GP Hannah Terry, who was found dead in her home on Sunday, Norfolk Police have confirmed.

Mark Cain, 45, has been charged after Dr Terry’s body was discovered in the Dersingham area near the King’s Sandringham estate this weekend.

Cain, of Fern Hill, Dersingham, has been remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on October 7.

Dr Terry was a mum-of-three also known as Dr Hannah Cain. She was a member of the practice team at Grimston Medical Centre.

A post on Grimston Medical Centre’s website on Monday said: “We are sorry to let patients know that Grimston Medical Centre, including the dispensary, is temporarily closed due to extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.

“We apologise for the disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding at what is a very difficult time for our colleagues.”

The GP was reportedly hosting a sleepover for children at her detached home in Norfolk when she died.

Emergency services were called to the property in Fern Hill at around 2.20am on Sunday morning.

A woman in her 40s, police said, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One neighbour said of Dr Terry: “She was just a lovely human being with three gorgeous young children.

“Something’s obviously gone very badly wrong. I’m just out of words; we all are.”

Another expressed their astonishment: “You read about things like this happening in other places. But nothing like it ever happens this close to home.”

A third local added: “It’s the sort of place where if you forget to lock your car and leave it out all night, nothing will happen to it.”
