In today’s GB News Daily Reflection, we remember that we must be thankful for all the blessings we’ve received.

“In Matthew Chapter 20, Jesus tells the parable of workers who are sent to work in a vineyard. At the start of the day, the owner of the vineyard comes to the marketplace, sees a bunch of guys hanging around, and he hires some of them to do a full day’s work.

“A few hours later, at 9:00, he comes back. Get some more. Having said to the first guys, I’ll pay you a denarius. He tells the guys at 9:00, come work for me. I’ll pay you what I owe you at the end of the day. A few hours later, he does the same. A few more people, and then at the at 5:00, one hour before closing time, he comes and hires yet more people.

“At the end of the day, when it comes to paying people what he owes them, he calls the people who he hired last, and he pays them a denarius. Then he pays all the others in turn. And when he gets to the people who’ve worked in the full heat, the full length of the day.

“He also gives them just a denarius. Now they are furious, thinking we’ve worked the whole day. Surely we deserve more than those who’ve worked just this last hour. And in a way, they’re right.

The scandal of God’s grace, his mercy for each one of us, does actually offend us, thinking, why should certain people get what I’m getting when I seem to have worked much harder than them, or been at it longer? But friends, our lives will be miserable if we go about them in that way. Thinking like that.

“How often do you list them? Count them. Do a journal of Thanksgiving. People like to do that today. If you do, you will realise how blessed you are and you won’t mind about how blessed other people are to.”
