Billions of people appear to have been left without access to social media after Facebook and Instagram went down.
Shortly after 2am BST, the world’s two largest social media platforms were left unusable.
The pair both boast north of three billion accounts.
Outage monitoring site DownDetector showed huge spikes as people around the world rushed to try and check what was going on.
Hundreds of people reported outages across the sites, as well as Threads, which are all run by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta.
Users said they were unable to access both websites – with Instagram also appearing to be suffering issues with its app.
“Right now it seems like Meta’s services are down,” one person said on X.
“I try to access Facebook, Instagram, or Threads, and none of them respond – they just get stuck on the screen showing the logo in the centre and don’t go any further.”
GB News has approached Meta for comment.
