Donald Trump has told GB News Sir Keir Starmer was “too tough on Russia” in a fiery swipe at the former Prime Minister.
The President, speaking at a bilateral meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky at the UN General Assembly, addressed fears from European leaders of a direct conflict with Russia.
“I think you’ll be OK,” Mr Trump said. “But I will say the rhetoric from your last Prime Minister was too tough.
“He has to be a little bit careful.”
Sir Keir as Prime Minister positioned himself as a strong ally of Ukraine on the global stage, receiving honours from France and Kyiv for his work to assemble the “Coalition of the Willing”.
GB News then asked Mr Trump about Andy Burnham and his stance on Russia.
“I haven’t heard the rhetoric too much,” Mr Trump said before Mr Burnham’s hawkish address to the UN General Assembly. “But I think he’s going to be good.”
Looking towards the Ukrainian President, he added: “I will say he’s on your side very much.

“And it’s a very interesting thing that you say. I’ve seen that dialogue. And that dialogue is too nasty.”
Mr Burnahm would later use his address to attack Moscow’s “information warfare” against Britain as he condemed Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin.
But Russia’s more traditional warfare has also not let up.
Moscow and Kyiv have traded devastating ballistic missile strikes through the year – only taking a small pause as US envoys visited both countries.
Mr Zelensky told reporters in New York he failed to get assurances from Washington to allow Patriot Interceptor missiles, used to defend against ballistic missile strikes, to be produced in Ukraine.

He has repeatedly urged Washington to allow Ukraine to manufacture the defence system in-house.
“When you speak with the leader about sensitive topics, they can say yes or they can say no,” Mr Zelensky said.
“[It is a] good step that nobody said no… but I didn’t get the very concrete answer.”
Mr Zelensky also said Ukraine was “ready” to end the war, but accused Russia of not being interested in negotiations.

He said: “God bless that the American side will find a way to bring them to any kind of negotiations.”
The Ukrainian President suggested he was “ready for [an] energy ceasefire” after the US President pressed him to halt strikes on oil refineries.
Ukraine has stepped up strikes on Russian infrastructure, including warehouses and crucial energy infrastructure.
Mr Trump has previously told GB News that, of the “eight wars” he has ended, four were supposed to be “much more difficult” to end than the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
