Political activist Daniel Thomas – known as Danny Tommo by his supporters – has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to criminal damage following an alleged incident in the English Channel on Tuesday.
Thomas is accused of slashing a boat in the English Channel with an emergency responder on board.
The 37-year-old also faces a further charge of failing to disclose the Pin to his phone to police, under Section 53 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.
Mr Thomas pleaded not guilty to both charges at Basingstoke Magistrates court, which carry a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment, and was remanded in custody.
The 37-year-old appeared via video link at Court Two of Basingstoke Magistrates Court, wearing a black T-shirt and silver coat.
District Judge, Tan Ikram, who is also the Deputy Chief Magistrate for England and Wales gave Mr Thomas the option to have his case heard at the Magistrates’ court or in a Crown Court.
Mr Thomas chose to have his case heard in a Crown Court.
District Judge Tan Ikram remanded Daniel Thomas in custody and will next appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 29.

PATommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, watched the hearing from the public gallery, alongside Mr Thomas’ son.
A number of other Danny Tommo supporters watched the hearing from an overflow courtroom.
Last night around 300 Danny Tommo supporters, dressed mostly in all black, gathered peacefully outside Basingstoke Police HQ chanting ‘Free DT’, calling for Mr Thomas to be released from police custody.
On Thursday evening, Chris Derrick from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Daniel Thomas following an investigation by Hampshire Constabulary into an incident on Tuesday September 22.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
“We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendant are active and he has the right to a fair trial.”
