Derbyshire Police has confirmed that no charges will be brought against England fast bowler Brydon Carse following the closure of their investigation into an alleged assault in Derby city centre.
The incident took place during the early hours of August 23 at Molly Malone’s on the Wardwick, where Carse had been out celebrating with his Durham teammates.
In a statement, the force said: “An investigation into reports of an assault in Derby city centre has been closed.”
Police added that after the alleged victim was traced and interviewed, a decision was made to take no further action in the matter.
Carse had been enjoying a night out with Durham teammates following a county match when he was handcuffed by police officers at the venue.
He was initially detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly but was subsequently de-arrested once he provided his details and agreed to leave the premises.
The force’s statement confirmed: “A man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and was then de-arrested after his details were taken by officers.”
Although the drunk and disorderly matter was resolved on the spot, separate allegations of an assault emerged in connection with the incident.

PAOfficers pursued those claims through further enquiries, tracing and speaking to the alleged victim before concluding that no action was warranted.
The independent Cricket Regulator will now determine whether Carse faces any disciplinary proceedings related to his conduct during the incident.
He was pulled from the squad prior to the second Test against Pakistan and subsequently omitted from the third match of that series as well.
For the current white-ball fixtures against Sri Lanka, selectors have again passed him over, even though he was officially deemed available.

GETTYThroughout this period, Carse has remained active at county level with Durham, playing a key role in their Rothesay County Championship Division Two title triumph.
England’s head coach Brendon McCullum addressed the situation earlier this week, urging players to consider their behaviour away from the pitch.
He said: “I’ve spoken to Carsey a lot and it’s the same message you need to make good decisions off the field that allow you to be able to be the best version of yourself.

Test captain Joe Root was more blunt, describing himself as “hacked off” by the accumulating alcohol-related incidents involving England cricketers.
Speaking about Carse specifically before the Lord’s Test, Root said: “I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn in saying he’s very upset, very apologetic and understands his actions. I’m sure when he gets his chance, he will say that himself.”
