“Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu and Keir Starmer parade on the world stage as fighters for freedom, democracy and human rights, yet their record is one of intolerance, repression and complicity in genocide”, Liz Payne told the Communist Party of Britain’s Political Committee on Tuesday evening (28 October 2025).
“At home and abroad, they trample on democratic liberties while serving the interests of big-business imperialism, including its military-industrial complex”, she added.
Speaking as the British government agreed to sell 20 UK-European fighter jets for £8bn to NATO member Turkey for possible action in Syria, Iraq and Libya, she called the US-UK-NATO-EU axis the “direst threat to peace and humanity in the world today”,
“From Venezuela and the Caribbean to the Middle East and Taiwan, the Western powers spearhead imperialist aggression and expansion” accused Ms Payne, Convenor of the Communist Party’s Peace Commission and a representative to the World Peace Council Executive Committee.
In particular, she contrasted Keir Starmer’s “lofty rhetoric about British values” to his right-wing anti-migrant, authoritarian and austerity agenda at home.
“His government arrests thousands of peaceful anti-genocide protestors as ‘terrorists’ while he refuses to condemn Israeli state terrorism”, she pointed out., “his real slogan is ‘Warfare Not Welfare’ as we will see in Chancellor Reeves’ forthcoming Budget”.
The CPB Political Committee welcomed recent election victories for Catherine Connolly as president of the Irish Republic and for Plaid Cymru’s Lindsay Whittle as Welsh Senedd member for Caerffili. The PC meeting received confirmation that Ofer Cassif, recently ejected from the Israeli Knesset, will travel to address the Communist Party’s 58th Congress in mid-November.
Britain’s Communists also urged members and supporters to attend the Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s trade union conference on 22 November and the next pro-Palestine demonstration in central London on 29 November 2025.
