In a fiery clash in the Irish Parliament, Mr Martin told Ms McDonald: “When Éamon de Valera affirmed the policy of our neutrality during World War II, Sinn Féin leaders colluded with the Hitler regime, and Sean Russell was the key person.”
The Irish Prime Minister, who accused Sinn Fein of weaponising conflicts involving Britain, also railed against a statue being unveiled for ex-IRA member Seán Russell
He added: “How dare you lecture me about Irish neutrality?”
Russell, who was a known IRA member, died after travelling to Nazi Germany to secure support for overthrowing the Free State and uniting the island of Ireland.
A statue was erected by republicans in Dublin’s Fairview Park in 1951.
