Scottish independence activists to deliver message to MSPs

Activists intend to give representatives “a clear message” on Thursday amid fear that independence is being allowed to slip down the political agenda.

“Welcome back – now make indy happen” is the key message being shared on social media ahead of the rally, with activists being encouraged to attend with placards and banners with their own messages of encouragement.

This event is being organised by a group of grassroots activist friends within the Yes movement, from different Yes groups and different parts of Scotland, and it is not associated with any political party or other national organisation.

The “Welcome” event will run from 1pm until 2pm outside the Parliament, immediately following the first FMQs of 2025-26

MSPs are also invited to “come and say hello,” organisers have said, adding: “It will be an opportunity for pro-independence politicians to demonstrate that they are listening, and to assure Scots of their commitment to make indy happen.”

They added: “There is much ongoing debate about routes to independence. Whatever the pros and cons of different routes, advocated by different organisations and individuals, the wider Yes Movement including grassroots and politicians need to work together, and the main message that the pro-independence political parties need to hear right now is that they must get on with the job.”

Ruth from Yes Lockerbie told The National: “Scotland has everything we need to be an independent country, and everything to lose by staying in the Union. So let’s do it and not force Scotland’s people to suffer any longer.”

“The Yes movement’s message is a clarion call to the pro independence politicians that they must engage with the grassroots and #MakeIndyHappen, as soon as possible – Scotland cannot afford to remain any longer in this damaging union that is the UK,” added Irene, of Yes Inverclyde.

Lorna from Pensioners for Independence also spoke of urgency, stating: “Westminster will continue to destroy our infrastructure and plunder our natural resources. They have closed down Scotland’s only refinery.

“Our own abundant renewable energy is sold back to us under UK energy policy at the highest prices in Europe. With independence we could be paying the cheapest.”

Stewart from Yes West Lothian said: “There is an undeniable case for independence, and we’re not prepared to wait. If Scotland is to thrive again, we must have our independence.”

“Overseas visitors to Scotland are well aware of the UK’s Brexit folly; they say ‘of course Scotland should be an independent country – why aren’t you already?'” said Morag from Yes for EU.

She added: “Those from EU countries usually add that they would welcome us with open arms back in the EU. The sooner we’re independent, the sooner we can join the EU and again enjoy the benefits we’ve been robbed of by the UK.”
