Scottish far-right party leader charged after paedophile hunter sting

In a video shared on social media, a crowd can be seen gathering outside the Braes Shopping Centre in Castlemilk as a man is confronted by Scotland’s Child Protection Team Against Sexual Abuse.

The man, who believed he was about to meet a 13-year-old, is wearing the uniform of the Glasgow Nomads swim club and holding a book entitled A Treasury of Love Poems, The Herald reports.

In the footage, the man admitted to the hunters that he had sent explicit pictures and asked for sexual images.

Charles Baillie was the British National Party’s (BNP) candidate in the 2009 Glasgow North East by-election.

He came fourth in the poll, receiving just over 1,000 votes.

Baillie was later expelled from the party for plotting against then leader Nick Griffin.

The two men had disagreed over whether non-white members should be allowed to join. Baillie claimed that white people needed a party that represented their views alone, while Griffin (below) sought to amend the BNP’s constitution to comply with laws against racial and religious discrimination.

Baillie went on to form the Britannica Party, taking many of the core members of the BNP’s small Glasgow branch with him.

The new party stood four candidates in the 2012 Glasgow City Council election, receiving a total of 73 votes.

It also registered as a campaigner for a No vote in the 2014 Scottish independence referendum.

While it has not contested any elections in recent years, and has since deregistered with the Electoral Commission, Baillie’s LinkedIn page still lists him as leader of the Britannica Party.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 74-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with indecent online communications.

“Officers were called to a shopping arcade in Castlemilk around 4.30pm on Friday, September 5, 2025, where a crowd had gathered.

“The 74-year-old has been released on an undertaking and will appear at court at a later date.”
