Oppose the Far Right! Build Class Solidarity!

The Communist Party stands in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers under attack from the far right and anti racists who seek to defend people who seek refuge.

We condemn those who are using the concerns of local communities to put forward the politics of hate and who bring violence and discord.

We say unequivocally that people seeking asylum have the right to do so. We say that whilst their claims are being considered they have the right to live in safe and appropriate accommodation with educational, health and mental health service support. We oppose the use of hotels which are often no more than detention centres.

Using a system of hotels as compounds drives a wedge of distrust between local communities and refugees. Local communities that question such decisions often feel marginalised, and overlooked. They should direct their concerns and campaigns against the councils, MPs and the Home Office who are treating communities and refugees as if they do not matter.

This policy is clearly not working and the Government must act now and decisively, to change direction and restore trust amongst citizens. If it stays its hand any longer, the threat to life will only grow.

Asylum seekers should be given the right to work and live in decent accommodation and to have their cases heard speedily.

We call for working class solidarity against the far right who are not our friends.

We call on trade unions in local areas affected to play a leading role in breaking through the fog of lies and conspiracies, holding explanatory meetings at workplace level. We call on progressive local councils to consult with local communities so that they remain united.

We call for calm and Community resilience in the face of far right attacks.

In the coming months the Communist Party will direct increased organisation and effort to combating the far right and to support for beleaguered refugees who need help, not threats of violence.
