In a similar warning, Swale Borough Council, working alongside Kent Police, has told residents to be mindful of those avoiding festivities for “religious reasons”.
In a statement, Hannah Perkin, the authority’s chairman of the community committee, said: “While many households are decorating their homes, making their costumes or buying sweets for the trick or treaters, some in Swale may be worrying about Halloween instead.
“We need to respect their right to sit out of the festivities.”
Swale Borough Council’s website also warns that low-income households may wish to avoid joining in as they may lack the resources to purchase “decorations and sweets”.
