The chaos unravelled as two groups of inmates were alleged to have nabbed guards’ guns and turned fire on each other as shots were heard.
The riots were said to have traumatised the British inmate, who has now been moved to a jail in north west Sri Lanka, Kuliyappitiya.
The insider said: “Charlotte was traumatised by the riots, a lot of people lost their lives.
“When the riots happened at Negombo, people were worried for her safety but she survived and has been moved.
