All jobs at risk as Scottish waste business enters administration

Avondale Environmental Ltd, which operates a waste management facility and landfill at Avondale Quarry, Polmont, has entered administration.

The firm reportedly has 19 employees and provides “unique services” in the waste management sector which includes specialism in hazardous waste.

Founded in 2000, the business has been described as “historically” profitable.

However, earlier this month, Avondale Environmental reportedly fell into insolvency due to rising costs and increasing cash pressures, according to STV News.

James Stephen and Kerry Bailey of BDO LLP have been appointed joint administrators of the Company.

Employees are reportedly being supported by the appointed administrators who are also working with key stakeholders to assess options over the coming days, including a potential sale of the business.

James Stephen of BDO LLP, one of the joint administrators, said: “The Company has historically been profitable and provides unique services in the sector, in particular with regard to hazardous waste.

“We are keen to engage with interested parties as soon as possible to explore this opportunity.”

A message on the company’s website confirms that the business has entered administration and that James Stephen and Kerry Bailey of BDO LLP have been appointed.

“Avondale is a leading waste treatment facility, with operations in non-hazardous and hazardous landfill, soil treatment and landfill gas-to-energy generation together with opportunities for Energy from Waste and Biogas,” the message reads.

“Avondale has been processing waste since 2000 and is widely recognised by local councils and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

“We are currently in the process of capping sections of the site and provide competitive rates for clean soils which can be used for restoration purposes.”
