Bob Vylan announce Glasgow gig amid police probe

The band said “after all the attempts to silence” them they will be playing at Glasgow’s O2 Academy in November as part of a six-date tour of the UK.

In June, Avon and Somerset Police launched an investigation into the band’s performance at Glastonbury Festival after rapper Bobby Vylan chanted “death, death to the IDF”.

Police said they had received a “large amount of contact from people across the world” in relation to the performance.

However, despite the police investigation, the duo posted a message on social media announcing their UK tour, as members Bob and Bobbie said: “After all the attempts to silence us, we’re about to be louder than ever.

“We won’t go quietly!”

In July, it was revealed that the BBC received more complaints about Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury performance than any other issue in more than four years.

An official report published by the broadcaster showed that some 3396 people had complained about the set which led to a number of senior staff at the BBC being told to “step back” from their day-to-day duties on music and live events.

In a statement posted to Instagram after the set, Vylan said: “Teaching our children to speak up for the change they want and need is the only way that we make this world a better place.

“As we grow older and our fire starts to possibly dim under the suffocation of adult life and all its responsibilities, it is incredibly important that we encourage and inspire future generations to pick up the torch that was passed to us.”

Rap trio Kneecap also faced an investigation into their performance at the festival, which was subsequently dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Formed in Ipswich in 2017, both members of Bob Vylan keep their real names secret to maintain their privacy.

The band’s musical style is a mix of grime, punk, and hard rock, and they have released four albums, Dread (2019), We Live Here (2020), Bob Vylan Presents The Price Of Life (2022), and Humble as the Sun (2024).

They won best alternative music act at the Mobo Awards in 2022, and best album at the Kerrang Awards in 2022 for Bob Vylan Presents The Price Of Life.

The band have also collaborated with Amyl And The Sniffers singer Amy Taylor, Soft Play guitarist Laurie Vincent and rock band Kid Kapichi.
